Brick weight matters for three reasons: pickup-truck payload limits (a full pallet exceeds most ½-ton truck capacity), structural review (a brick veneer wall transfers significant dead load to the foundation), and shipping pricing (LTL freight charges per pound). This calculator returns total project weight in pounds, tons, and full pallets.

How to Calculate Brick Weight

Modular = 4.5 lb · Queen-size = 5.2 lb · King-size = 5.6 lb · Firebrick = 7-9 lb · Pallet (500 brick) = 2,300 lb.

Total Weight (lb) = Brick Count × Per-Brick Weight. Pallets = Pounds ÷ 2,300. Tons = Pounds ÷ 2,000.

Brick Weight Reference

  • Modular (7-5/8″ × 2-1/4″): 4.2-4.8 lb each (~4.5 avg)
  • Queen-size (7-5/8″ × 2-3/4″): 5.0-5.4 lb
  • King-size (9-5/8″ × 2-3/4″): 5.4-5.8 lb
  • Engineer modular: 5.0 lb
  • Norman brick: 6.5 lb
  • Firebrick (refractory): 7-9 lb
  • Standard pallet (500 brick): 2,300 lb
  • Brick wall (per sq ft): ~40 lb (brick + mortar)

Frequently Asked Questions

01

How much does a brick weigh?

Modular face brick (7-5/8 × 2-1/4 × 3-5/8 inch): 4.2-4.8 lb each. Queen-size: 5.2 lb. King-size: 5.6 lb. Firebrick (denser): 7-9 lb. Old reclaimed handmade bricks: 5-7 lb due to inconsistent dimensions.

02

How much does a pallet of bricks weigh?

Standard brick cube = 500 modular bricks × 4.5 lb avg = 2,250 lb + pallet ~50 lb = 2,300 lb. Most masonry suppliers ship 1 cube on a standard pallet. Larger 1000-brick cubes weigh ~4,500 lb.

03

Can I haul a pallet of bricks in my pickup?

Most ½-ton pickups (F-150) max payload ~1,700 lb — about ⅔ pallet. ¾-ton trucks (F-250) handle a full 2,300 lb cube. Full-size 1-ton trucks (F-350) handle ~1.5 cubes per trip safely.

04

How heavy is a brick wall?

A modular brick veneer wall weighs ~40 lb per sq ft (brick + mortar). A 300 sq ft veneer wall = 12,000 lb = 6 tons. Structural calculations matter when designing the supporting ledger or shelf angle.

05

Does brick weight affect shipping cost?

Significantly — most masonry suppliers price delivery by weight, not piece count. Pallet weight (2,300 lb each) usually requires LTL freight, not parcel delivery. Plan delivery cost separately from material cost.
